Uwe Johnson's Anniversaries - The Commentary

Abstract

This contribution originated more than 25 years ago and outlines how people came together for a shared understanding for a variety of reasons and from highly individual backgrounds. In the 1990s, Germanists, entrepreneurs, as well as a lawyer compiled the much-needed commentary on Uwe Johnson’s Jahrestage. At the presentation of the commentary at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1999, the author reflected on challenges and opportunities, on searching and finding, a process – and lots of fun - that lasted almost ten years. As an accidental by-product an annual journal came into being, which has until now has delivered research on Johnson for more than 30 years.
